Microtunnelling Solutions for Precision Pipeline Installation
Microtunnelling is a highly specialised, precise trenchless construction method. It is used to install underground pipelines while causing minimal disruption to the surface above. The technique utilises a Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) to excavate the ground while simultaneously installing pipe sections behind the machine through pipe jacking.
The Microtunnelling Advantage
Microtunnelling enables infrastructure to be installed efficiently while maintaining the integrity of the surface above. Therefore, it is commonly used where minimum disruption is required, such as beneath busy motorways, railways and rivers. This also leads to far less traffic congestion, road closures and noise compared to traditional open-cut construction methods.Â
Through microtunnelling, pipelines can be installed beneath farmland, natural habitats and environmentally sensitive areas. This helps to protect ecosystems and agricultural land while still enabling the construction of vital underground infrastructure.
Our Capabilities
Our microtunnelling capability includes pipeline installation from 600mm to 2400mm diameter using specialist TBM equipment, subject to ground conditions, alignment and project requirements. With advanced guidance systems and specialist equipment, we are able to maintain precise line and level control throughout each drive, ensuring that pipelines are installed accurately and efficiently.
We operate a modern fleet of Herrenknecht slurry TBMs, including AVN capability, supported by experienced operators, separation plant and control systems.
